Design by Spectrum Skatepark Creations Ltd Jim Barnum - 604-985-5683

Built by a crew of local skaters and some other highly skilled locals trained by Spectrum, along with Spectrum crew making trips for the concrete pours. Killer way of doing it, keeps it cheaper rather than having Spectrums crew do the whole shebang.

The Kanaka Rd. Skatepark Opener
The many parents, shops, local citizens, riders, brand names, and businesses involved in the creation of the Kanaka Rd. Skatepark can all step back, pat each other on the shoulders, and take witness to the power of good will and elbow grease.
On November 13th, 2004, Saltspring Islanders held one heck of an opening celebration to christen the unveiling it's much deserved skatepark creation. Saltspring Island has always had a diverse and talented group of local skaters who until recently had no place to ride. Their practicing was done on weather-beaten wooden cul-de-sac ramps, invite only private ramps, or at off-island locations (most often Vic West skatepark). Obviously something had to be done to properly facilitate all riders: fledgling newbees, seasoned skaters, BMXers, and inline skaters. After years of political process, skyrocketing concrete costs, design ironing, and plentiful fundraising efforts a park was born. As with the completion of any arduous task with victory achieved, a celebration is deemed a necessity... Indeed the music was blasted, the rain was hexed, the food was shared, and the skating was unending. The Kanaka Rd. Skatepark has met, and surpassed, the need of local riders and off-Island enthusiasts looking to taste the rich diversity of its terrain. No doubt a great addition to the colouful palette of skateparks that are so plentiful here in British Columbia.
