The Bowl Series kicked off at Seylynn on Canada Day as to mark another season of summertime skateboarding in Vancouver. With so much history involved the skaters knew where to be on Canada Day. Supporting this cause were legendary names with the likes of Bill"The Nomad" Danforth, Rob"Sluggo" Boyce, Rob Nurmi, Don"The Mad Carver" Hartley and Pete"PD" Ducommun of Skull Skates. These are classic individuals that have done much for Skateboarding to say the least with no end in sight.
As usual it started late but it's all good as this is one of the best unorganized event of the year. The overcast skies provided some shelter from the sizzling heat while I was finding shelter from all the flying people and boards. This place is dangerous and skate I did not! And of course there were great prizes, dramatic slams and big airs. After a few ice cold ones, who won and what they won became irrelevant as it's just a cool place to hang. As good as it is, my age does not allow me to stay the distance as this event stretches well into the evening. By this time not only my kids are hungry they are acting funny on the stuff that lingers in the air!
Stayed tuned for the other Bowl Series coming up shortly with a back to back weekend Squamish and Whistler jam. Next stop is Griffin, North Van. July 22.
