Zoo York's AM Getting Paid - Le Taz, Montreal - July 24-26, 2009

JULY 27TH, 2009 – ZOO YORK’s Am Getting Paid has crowned a new winner after three days of gruelling competition; Vancouver, BC’s Magnus Hanson beat out 115 of the world’s top Amateur skaters for first place and $5000 US dollars.  Magnus who qualified 4th to move onto the semi finals shined all contest even after taking what Transworld Skateboarding’s Ben Kelly said “was the slam of the weekend”. "The new park made the contest way better and way more fun. So many good homies there made a really good vibe to skate.  I'm just going to put the money in the bank” said Magnus.  Taking 2nd place and $2000 was Think Skateboards rider Manny Santiago, with 3rd place going to another Vancouver resident, Underworld Shop’s Mickey Papa earning him $1000.

The finals took place on Sunday afternoon seeing a capacity crowd of over 650 spectators cheering on the heated competition and checking out the vendor village.  Other notable skaters in the finals included Baker’s Justin “Figgy” Figueroa, previous two time champ Antoine Asselin, Zoo York’s Ron Deily, Supra’s Spencer Hamilton and Studio skateboards Andrew McGraw.

Celebrating it’s 5th year ZOO YORK’s Am Getting Paid moved to brand new Le Taz Skatepark just outside downtown Montreal.  With the new location also came a change to incorporate a jam format, which the riders and crowd responded well to.  The park included street elements like fire hydrants and street signs along with real landscaping.

The “weekend” really began on Wednesday night with the opening party featuring longtime Montreal photographer Felix Faucher’s photo exhibition at Salon Officiel, Thursday’s 10 Deep x Underworld party at Blue Dog, Fridays Vestal x Underworld show with Brutal Knights and Barn Burner playing and of course the nightlife highlight the official Am Getting Laid after party on Saturday night featuring Oakland, California’s Souls Of Mischief performing.  With Souls of Mischief holding it down the venue was packed and the Coors light, Monster and Jagermeister flowing no one left unhappy.  However the weekend wasn’t over yet as Sunday night hosted the Montreal premiere of Transworld Skateboarding’s “Right Foot Forward” video ending where it all started at Salon Officiel!

ZOO YORK’s Am Getting Paid 2009 is presented by Underworld Shop, Coors Light, Osiris Shoes, Oakley, Monster Energy and SBC Skateboard Mag.   Along with additional support from partners Control Skateboards, Transworld Skateboarding, Dakine, New Era, Vestal, Dose.ca, Expose Mag, Pentagon Productions, 33Mag and Crux Magazine.
